Top Marks from Professor David Hargreaves

Updated: 2nd October 2014

Our conference on 10th October 2012 with David Hargreaves was a huge success, receiving excellent evaluations from all who attended. Headteachers, senior leaders and governors from five local authorities were agreed that it had been a thought provoking and inspirational day.

The theme was based on David’s thinkpieces written for the National College for School Leaders on what a future self-improving school system might look like. His input on joint practice development gave us plenty to consider in order to move forward the work of the Collaborative. The key features of effective partnerships provided an audit tool to aid action planning for the future. Participants finished the day eager to forge partnerships to further develop practice.

What excited and pleased the Bury contingent the most were David’s comments and endorsement of the work of the BPLC. Prior to the conference, David had been given a copy of our report on the first year of the BPLC for contextual information. He had certainly done his homework linking activities within the BPLC to examples in his presentation. Referring to the report, he said that the BPLC had a powerful story to tell. Our favourite comments from David were:

“The Bury model is one of the most impressive models I have seen in this country”
“You are ahead of the game!”

Endorsement from such an eminent speaker is praise indeed. Congratulations to all who have helped to make our first year such a success.
