Message From Our Board

Welcome to the Bury Primary Learning Collaborative website. No longer a new-born infant, the BPLC is now going through the ‘terrible twos’ and overcoming tantrums and the attacks upon education at present.

This site has grown out of a desire to improve the way in which we communicate with our partner schools, share the good practice that exists in Bury and beyond, and make the improvements in our schools obvious to the wide world.

The Bury Primary Learning Collaborative (BPLC) is now more than two years old and was formed because of a vision for school improvement that had:
(a)    schools identifying the support and training they needed;
(b)   the financial clout to enable to us to facilitate local delivery;
(c)    the knowledge of high quality Continuous Professional Development sources;
(d)   schools working co-operatively and supportively with other schools.

"Our aim remains, to improve the life chances of all children and young people of Bury by enabling them to be the best that they can be. We do this by providing excellent, exciting, targeted and bespoke professional learning for all staff in our schools". Morven Stroud, Chair of BPLC Board 2011/12

The BPLC is made up of head teachers representing each of the clusters (the board), our facilitator Anne Johnston and staff from the DTC. There is a chair and deputy chair, elected each year and the rotation of board members, ensures a fresh perspective and encourage wide participation as the venture moves forward. The board meets each half-term to plan training, mutual support opportunities and peer-to-peer discussions for all our school staff.

The overwhelming majority of schools in the borough have again bought into the BPLC agreement and an increasing number of schools from neighbouring authorities are now taking full advantage of our relevant and leading edge courses and speakers. We would love to welcome even more schools and other bodies that are working to enhance co-operative learning for all.

Paul Heaton, Chair of BPLC Board 2013/2014
